A TV Pilot directed by the creator of TheThespians

A company of actors in community theater perform in an industrial space to a meager audience. Misfits make up a cast with both comedic and tragic potential. The play is atrocious but not as bad as the acting.The director and writer, enthralled by their own ego and encouraged by a college student in film studies, decide to turn the play into a movie. It is a play within a movie within a series.

Among this group of misfits is one genius writer/actor. Their work is never recognized by others but is blindingly obvious to our audience. At each display of genius they are disparaged and belittled by the director and cast. This is the milieu from which a series of 20 minute dramedies emerge.We never learn much about the content of the play or the movie other than brief scenes with no continuity freeing the writers to take each episode to new comic depths. 

“TheThespians” is a challenge for real actors as they must act poorly in some scenes and convincingly in others. It is cost-effective filmmaking because the locations are ordinary and easily available. It will be distributed in 20 minute episodes on Youtube.
